If you’re worried about your child’s smile this Halloween, then our Lake City Family Dental Center, PA team is happy to help you! There are things you can do to help your child maintain a strong and healthy smile this Halloween, and those things are:

-Encourage your child to avoid choosing the hard and sticky candies when visiting each house. Hard and sticky candies are the most harmful to the teeth, especially because they stick to the tooth enamel and promote tooth decay.

-Have your child eat their candy shortly after eating a meal. Doing so is beneficial because your child produces high amounts of saliva while eating, so the saliva can help wash away the harmful particles the candy leaves behind.

-Fluoride is a natural mineral that can strengthen the teeth, so it’s best to have your child take advantage of fluoride by drinking fluoridated water and by brushing with fluoride toothpaste. This will help prevent cavities.

-Keep your child’s smile clean with a consistent oral hygiene routine. Make sure they brush twice a day with a soft-bristled toothbrush and floss at least once a day with an easy-to-use product.

-Encourage your child to chew sugarless gum that has the American Dental Association’s Seal of Acceptance. The saliva produced while chewing will help wash away the candy particles and neutralize the acid in the mouth.
